A Most Unforgettable Experience with Mr. Benedict Marquez

Dear Brethren,

I have seen brethren leaving the PCG and I have heard their voices through the Lastendbookofremembrance website.  They have a real cause to stand for.  If you would care to read, let my voice be heard as well.

I am Roy Baconguis.  I am  a member of the Cagayan de Oro City congregation in Mindanao.  I am currently under suspension and I know that writing this letter will mean like cutting off my connection with the PCG permanently.  But I have to send this personal message out of love for the brethren who have remained unmoved by the numerous articles and letters being sent to us by the true people of God who are doing His strange and marvelous work at this last end.  I hope that this letter will help you see clearly the present realities of what is happening in the PCG.

I realized that there are lot of financially poor people in the PCG in the Philippines who have been mercilessly put out of the Church due to money reason.  I am one of them.  My last attendance in the PCG was during the Feast of Trumpets and Day of Atonement in 2013. I wished I could have attended the Feast of Tabernacles which was just a few days away after Atonement but I was not allowed to attend by the ministry.  In fact I was suspended before the Feast.  The ministry did not extend any mercy on me.

You see, just before the Day of Atonement, my wife suffered from a stroke and without any other source of funds and nobody else to lean on for help, I was constrained by my situation to dip into my second tithe savings for the emergency expenses incurred by my wife.  When I told my minister about it, I did not receive any word of compassion for my situation.  I only got a rebuke and disheartening suspension from the Church following my deplorable situation with my wife being bedridden after her life threatening incident.  My wife is a prospective member who has been faithfully studying Church literatures early on, until this incident.  She is a supportive and sanctified wife of a member.  The harshness of the decision of cutting me off from the Church may have badly affected her impression of the Church as a result but I did hope she can recover from that trauma along with her physical recovery.  I have been a sheep thrown out of God’s fold into the wild where all kinds of danger lurks all around.  From that point (Sept 2013) onwards till this present time (March 2015), Mr. Ben Marquez, our local minister in Cagayan de Oro have never taken any initiative  to look for this sheep to find out how I’m doing.  My local shepherd’s mindset down here is so far different from that of the Good shepherd who gave His own life for His sheep.  My local shepherd seems like he wants me out of God’s fold forever!

As a matter of fact, I had to take the initiative myself by personally going to the ministry.  In July 2013, I phoned Mr. John Macdonald to tell him about my desire to return to Church.  He told me to see Mr. Marquez instead.  Later I got a call from Mr. Marquez and he asked me to see him in Mallbery Hotel in CDO in July 19 at 2 PM, Friday.  When we met, He asked me so many questions.  The sad part of the story is when, at the end of our dialogue, he judged me as being SELF-RIGHTEOUS!  On top of that he told me, “I WILL NOT INVITE YOU BACK!  I can’t believe he can say those words.  Does he think he has attained perfection and that he can already speak like he is already a God by claiming to himself God’s prerogative? I wonder if has forgotten a very basic tenet of Christ’s teaching that it is God  the Father Himself who invites every member of His Church into His Family.  No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:44).

I came to see Mr. Marquez hoping to receive some encouragement from one who is supposed to be God’s servant or slave.   What I got was more discouragement and a feeling of hopelessness, more than anything else.  As one who represents God, he made God look really bad that day!

PCG Minister Benedict Marquez

Mr. Ben Marquez is a very young minister, lacking in many experiences in life I would suppose.   He cannot even pride himself with having raised up a child to adulthood because his eldest is still a child.  I hope he will be able to quickly learn how to become a faithful servant of God who would look after God’s begotten children like his own children by treating everyone with tender loving care.  I hope he will learn to apply the child rearing formula of 85% love, 15% instruction and 5% discipline in giving care and attention to the people of God whom he is supposed to serve.  I hope he was that way from the very start of his ministry in Cagayan de Oro.

I had a most unforgettable experience with Mr. Marquez when he was yet very new in this place.  Let me share this experience with you.  On May 24, 2012 we had a whole day service at De Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro.  After Sabbath service on that day my brother Rodel Baconguis, asked the permission of Mr. Benedict Marquez if he (Rodel) could keep the NTBMO at their house, together with his daughter Rowena and Mr. Silvino Paglinawan who is from Iligan City.  After that day, I realized that I should have asked to be included in that group who will be keeping that night in my brother’s house.  But I missed the opportunity to speak to Mr. Marquez about it.

One thing that occurred to me after that service is the fact the Passover 2012 falls on April 6, a Friday.  Coincidentally that particular Friday is also the Catholics’ Good Friday which will create the problem of scarcity of public transportation.  Now since the NTBMO will be observed on Friday evening, members who have to travel to and fro by public transpo will find it very difficult to get a ride.  If I have a private car, it wouldn’t matter to me but I have no such option.  If Mr. Marquez would allow me to join the others in my brother’s house, I wouldn’t have to worry about any such transpo problem because I can sleep over in my brother’s house.

So the following  Sabbath on March 31, 2012, I came up to speak to Mr. Marquez about my intent to join the group of my brother.  I explain to him what a BIG FAVOR it will be for me and thus make our NTBMO observance such a wonderful experience.  I explained to him about the anticipated problem with scarcity of jeepneys on Good Friday evening.  I was hoping for a favorable answer but I was taken aback by his angry response! Without any provocation, he yelled at me and shouted in a very loud voice, ‘’Bakit?,  mga Kristiyano lang ba ang mga nagda-drive diyan?, may mga Muslims diyan ah,may mga sino pa diyan na nagda-drive.” I did not talk back to him, I just stared at him very sharply.  I told myself, this man is not a  true minister of God, he is a demon in sheep’s clothing. I know very clearly that there will be no shouting in anger against one another in God’s kingdom.  Anyway, until now I haven’t been able to find a Muslim driving a passenger jeepney in Cagayan de Oro.

Maybe Mr. Benedict Marquez is ignorant of Paul’s instruction to young misters like Timothy on how to treat older people like myself (1Tim 5:1):

“Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;”

Or perhaps, he’s never learned to obey this other scripture when he was younger (Lev 19:32):

“Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.”

So from the moment he first conducted services in Cagayan de Oro, it’s still the same Ben Marquez we have come to know.  He is a product of the kind of leadership we have in the PCG today being spearheaded by the drunkards of Ephraim.  He is just one of those foolish shepherds described in Zec 11:16:

‘’For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces.’’

But God loves His people.  He loves everyone of us.  He will rescue you from captivity in this church which has become like Babylon (virgin daughter of Babylon – Isa 47).  God has given us the way out of it by providing us the promised book in Mal 3:16 which is the Book of Remembrance.  Be sure to get it and heartily read it for it your ticket to the Place of Safety.

I hope and pray that you’ll give up the fear of man but fear none other but God only!  Don’t be afraid to read the Book of Remembrance.  It contains the word of God for those who fear Him.  It’s for you.

Your brother in Christ,

Cagayan de Oro City Congregation
